Successful test-fire of modernized version of BrahMos missile

India on Tuesday successfully test-launched a new version of the advanced supersonic BrahMos missile from a stealth guided missile destroyer of the Indian Navy. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said that the missile hit the target accurately.

DRDO tweeted, "The advanced sea-to-sea version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was test fired from INS Visakhapatnam today. The missile hit the designated target accurately.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said the successful launch of the missile has shown the firmness of the Indian Navy's "mission related preparedness". He tweeted and congratulated the Indian Navy and DRDO for this achievement.

The Indo-Russian joint venture 'BrahMos Aerospace' produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or ground-based platforms.

BrahMos missiles can launch at Mach 2.8 or nearly three times the speed of sound.
